An EIN is required for an LLC to apply. If an EIN hasn't been issued yet, one can be obtained directly from the IRS. If IRS login information has been lost, the IRS can help retrieve it directly. However, certain entities, such as a sole proprietorship, may be able to apply without an EIN.
