What is multi-factor authentication (MFA)?

Updated over a week ago

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a verification method that requires more than one step to access your account, adding a critical second layer of security to your sign-in. It works by requiring at least two verification methods: your password and a secondary authentication method, like a trusted device such as a mobile phone.

When you use MFA, you'll periodically need to approve your sign-in attempt from a trusted source. You can set it up using:

  • A mobile app that sends a push notification or generates a token code.

  • Accepting a call on your mobile phone.

  • Receiving a text on your mobile phone with a token code.

Be sure to only approve authentication requests when you're actively signing in.
